1. Publication calendar
Each year is one volume (Vol. 1 = 2024, Vol. 2 = 2025, Vol. 3 = 2026, Vol. 4 = 2027). Each issue covers one quarter:
| Issue | Period | First article | Closes |
|---|---|---|---|
| No. 1 | January – March | January | 31 March |
| No. 2 | April – June | April | 30 June |
| No. 3 | July – September | July | 30 September |
| No. 4 | October – December | October | 31 December |
The issue in progress is always shown as the "Current issue" on the website. At the end of each quarter the issue is complete and the next one opens.
2. How continuous publication works
An accepted article follows this path until it appears in the open issue:
| 1 | Acceptance. The article passes peer review and the editorial decision. |
| 2 | Production. Copyediting, APA 7 formatting, layout and proof approval by the authors. |
| 3 | Immediate publication. It is published in the open issue with its DOI, received, accepted and published dates, and its final citation details. |
| 4 | Issue closure. At the end of the quarter, the issue gathers all the articles published in it. Its content no longer changes. |
- Citation details (volume, issue, pages and DOI) are final from the day of publication and do not change when the issue closes.
- Pagination is sequential within each issue, in order of publication.
- PURISUM never goes more than two months without publishing new content.
3. Sections and peer review
Texts are published in the following sections. Those marked as peer-reviewed undergo double-blind external review and count as peer-reviewed research articles.
| Section | Length | Peer-reviewed |
|---|---|---|
| Research article | 6,000–9,000 words | Yes |

| Research note | 2,500–4,000 words | Yes |
| Case study | 3,500–6,000 words | Yes |

4. Composition of each issue

- At least 60% of the texts in each issue are peer-reviewed articles, and at least 40% are original research articles.

5. Thematic dossiers
- A dossier brings together 4 to 8 articles on one topic, coordinated by one or more guest editors.
- Each dossier is announced with its own call stating the topic, submission dates and the issue in which it will appear.
- All dossier articles undergo the same double-blind external review. Guest editors do not assess or decide on texts in which they have a conflict of interest.
- Articles authored by the guest editors do not exceed 25% of the dossier.
