Preservación digital
Editorial policy
Digital preservation
PURISUM ensures that everything it publishes remains available in the long term, even if its platform changes or the journal ceases publication. It combines an international preservation network, its own backups and persistent identifiers.

StrategyWhat is preservedIdentifiersIf the journal closesResponsibilities
1. Preservation strategy
Preservation relies on four independent layers, so that no single failure puts the content at risk:
| 1 | PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). A free network run by the Public Knowledge Project, based on the LOCKSS system. It keeps distributed copies of every published issue in libraries in several countries and regularly checks their integrity. |
| 2 | ILADESA backups. Regular copies of the OJS database and files, stored outside the main server with restricted access. |
| 3 | External repository. Each published issue, with its metadata, is deposited in a PURISUM community on Zenodo, which assigns it its own persistent identifier. |
| 4 | Distributed metadata. Each article's metadata is registered with Crossref and exposed via OAI-PMH, so indexes and harvesters keep its description and link. |
2. What is preserved
| Content | Format |
|---|---|
| Published articles | PDF and, progressively, JATS XML |
| Article metadata | Title, authors, ORCID, abstract and keywords in Spanish and English, references, DOI, license and dates |
| Supplementary files | The formats in which they were published |
| Corrections, expressions of concern and retractions | As linked notices, never deleting the original version |
| Complete issues | Table of contents and front matter |
3. Persistent identifiers
- Every article has a DOI with the prefix 10.62785, registered with Crossref. The DOI always resolves to the current version of the article, even if the website address changes.
- Authors are identified by their ORCID.
- If the journal's address changes, PURISUM updates the links of all its DOIs in Crossref.
4. If the journal ceases publication
If PURISUM ceases publication or its website becomes unavailable:
- Content preserved in the PKP PN is made publicly available in open access, exactly as published.
- ILADESA will keep the journal's complete archive online or transfer it to an institution that takes over its custody.
- DOIs will be redirected to the copy that remains available, so existing citations keep working.
- Each article's CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license remains in force, so anyone can continue to share it.
5. Responsibilities
- The OJS technical editor checks that PKP PN deposits are completed for every issue and that backups work.
- The Editorial Directorate reviews this policy once a year.
